The Issue Management Council (IMC) Announces
New Board Members
Mr. Boerner is the managing director for Rowan & Blewitt, Inc., of New York and has over three decades of corporate communication, investor communications, issue management and crisis communications experience. He is recognized for his expertise in corporate communications and is an authority on corporate governance, corporate and institutional accountability and social responsibility trends affecting corporations, the public sector, non-profit organizations, and trade associations. Before becoming a consultant, Boerner was a vice president and senior communications manager for the New York Stock Exchange, responsible for communication with listed companies, NYSE member firms, institutional and individual investors, the Congress, White House, and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
After working in daily journalism in New Zealand and London, Mr. Jaques has had extensive experience in public affairs in government and in business, with a strong emphasis on environmental issues and community relations. He is currently a regional public affairs manager for Dow Chemical, based in Melbourne, Australia, with responsibility for issue management and environmental communication in Australia and New Zealand, and throughout the company’s manufacturing operations in Asia. Jaques is the publisher of "Don’t Just Stand There – the Do-it Plan™ for Effective Issue Management." He is also a former winner of the Public Relations Institute of Australia’s Victorian State Award for Excellence for Issue and Crisis Management, and was selected as the PRIA’s Eminent Practitioner for 1998-1999.
Mr. Mahon is professor of management and the first John M. Murphy Chair of International Business Policy and Strategy at the Maine Business School, University of Maine. Prior to his appointment at Maine, Professor Mahon held the position of Professor of Strategy and Policy and Chair of the Strategy and Policy Department at the School of Management at Boston University. He received his D.B.A. from Boston University. Mahon has co-authored over 85 papers and book chapters and 70 cases in strategy, general management, and public policy. He was awarded the Issue Management Council’s Intellectual Leadership Award, the first ever given to an academic for the impact his research and executive education has had on the discipline and practice of issues management.
Mr. Manager is director of global issues management for Nike, with responsibilities across a wide spectrum of corporate affairs. His duties span the following categories: e-commerce strategic communications counsel, global manufacturing practices, litigation support and crisis communications. Before joining NIKE in April 1997, he served in a similar capacity at Levi Strauss & Co.’s Global Headquarters in San Francisco and was a vice president at the Washington, DC based firm of Powell Tate. His past professional affiliations and/or institutional clients include: Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt, Arizona Governor Rose Mofford; D.C. Mayor Sharon Pratt Kelly, British Council/London School of Economics; Major League Baseball and the PGA Tour.
Mr. Sorrells is manager, state government relations, for Eastman Chemical Company and has been with the company for 27 years. He has a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Mississippi State University and an M.S. in Engineering Administration from the University of Tennessee. Currently a registered professional engineer, Sorrells is a former Army Infantry Officer and a Vietnam veteran.

Affleck, California Avocado Commission; Janet César de Pozarnik Petróleos de Venezuela; John M. Cleghorn, Bank of America; Lawrence G. Hurst, Intel Corporation; Eli Sopow, EliSopow & Associates, Malcolm T. Williams, Shell International Ltd, and Dr. Benjamin C. Dysart, III, Dysart & Associates, Inc., who was tapped as IMC’s new Treasurer.
The Issue Management Council, www.issuemanagement.org, is the professional membership organization for corporate issue managers. As the international clearinghouse for information on issue management, the IMC’s primary goal is enhancing organizational and individual ability to anticipate and manage issues. The IMC includes members from companies and organizations in North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
