Roberto “Bob” Nelson

Roberto “Bob” Nelson manages corporate communications, community relations/stakeholder outreach, issue management, crisis communications, and media relations in support of BASF’s operations across North America.  He leads the award-winning BASF science education team, develops strategies and administers education programs to help position BASF as a leader in STEM education in North America.

Most recently, he was Senior Manager, Public Affairs and Community Relations for the Phosphates Business Unit of The Mosaic Company, the world’s leading producer and marketer of concentrated phosphate and potash, two of the primary crop nutrients required to grow the food the world needs.  In that capacity, Bob led and supported a team of public affairs and community relations managers with community advocacy/investments, issue and crisis management, social media, brand management and project development. He also served as media spokesperson and key advisor to mining and manufacturing operations, environment, health and safety (EHS) and legal leadership on strategic phosphates business initiatives.

At The DuPont Company, he was Program Manager, Public and External Affairs of global operations, corporate remediation and brownfields redevelopment programs.

Prior to DuPont, Bob held senior public affairs roles with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Department of the Navy and the State of Delaware.  He is an Army veteran and served as a combat photojournalist with the XVIII Airborne Corps.

Bob is a graduate of the Defense Information School and Delaware State University with B.A. in Journalism, and speaks fluent Spanish.
