Roberto “Bob” Nelson

Roberto “Bob” Nelson leads a team responsible for communications, issue management, community engagement, media relations and local government affairs in support of BASF’s production and R&D operations, environmental remediation efforts, and real-estate redevelopment across North America and Puerto Rico. He also coordinates advocacy work with local, state and federal regulatory agencies and oversees crisis communications as a member of the BASF Incident Support/Crisis Management teams. Additionally, Nelson oversees BASF’s award-winning STEM education programs, and charitable contributions initiatives.

Most recently, he was Senior Manager, Public Affairs and Community Relations for the Phosphates Business Unit of the Mosaic Company.  In that capacity, Nelson led and supported a team of public affairs and community relations managers with stakeholder advocacy, issue management, crisis communications, social media, brand management and project development. He also served as media spokesperson and key advisor to mining and manufacturing operations; environment, health and safety (EHS); and legal leadership on strategic phosphates business initiatives.

At the DuPont Company, he was Program Manager, Public and External Affairs for manufacturing operations, environmental remediation and brownfields redevelopment programs.

Prior to DuPont, Nelson held senior public affairs roles with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Department of the Navy and the State of Delaware.  He is an Army veteran and served as a combat photojournalist with the XVIII Airborne Corps.

Nelson is a graduate of the Department of Defense Information School and earned a B.A. in Journalism from Delaware State University.
